Toyota Standard Safety Sense

Pre-Collision System (PCS)

In compact vehicles equipped with Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C), the Pre-Collision System employs an in-vehicle camera and laser, working at speeds from 7 mph to up to 85 mph, to help detect potential frontal collision with vehicles ahead. In such an event, the system prompts you with audible and visual alerts to evade and brake. The PCS works in tandem with an auto brake function if proper countermeasures aren't taken, providing additional braking force depending upon pedal depression using Brake Assist and reducing your vehicle's speed by up to 19 mph. After an approximate two-second stop, the brake will release. You can even adjust alert timing and system activation settings depending upon your vehicle's model and TSS-C system configuration.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA)

The Lane Departure Alert feature in Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) equipped compact vehicles uses a camera to distinguish visible white and yellow lane markers on the road ahead, relative to your vehicle's road position. Operating at speeds of approximately 32 mph or higher on most roads, upon sensing lane deviation, the system's designed to alert you via your Toyota's multi-information display with warnings both audible and visual, encouraging course correction. Plus, you can turn the LDA off or adjust the sensitivity of alerts to suit your preferences.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)

Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) and electronic power steering-equipped mid-size and large vehicles see the addition of steering assist and Vehicle Sway Warning functions. In addition to keeping you apprised of lane location, the system delivers minor corrective steering inputs via your vehicle's wheel for a short period, helping you get back on track. Likewise, you can activate and adjust settings with ease, both for alerts and steering assist as well as for the LDA's Vehicle Sway Warning.

Automatic High Beams (AHB)

An in-vehicle camera, standard in both Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) equipped compact vehicles and Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) equipped mid-size and large vehicles, continually monitors, at speeds of approximately 25 mph or higher, the headlight strengths of approaching vehicles as well as the taillights of those behind. As they approach and pass, your Toyota's lights automatically switch as appropriate between high and low beams to produce optimal conditions for visibility. Your AHB system can be activated and deactivated manually according to the needs of your drive time.

Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)

Mid-size and large vehicles employing Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) take a step up from the reliable standard PCS to the use of an in-vehicle camera and front-grill-mounted millimeter-wave radar. System detection of a potential frontal collision now extends to speeds from 7 mph to 110 mph, and reduction in vehicle speed via Brake Assist increases to up to 25 mph. Plus, TSS-P's PCS adds Pedestrian Detection, operating between vehicle speeds of 7 mph and 50 mph.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control helps you keep your mid-size or large Toyota vehicle outfitted with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) at a consistent, between-25-and-110-mph speed on highways or expressways. A front-grill-mounted millimeter-wave radar, an in-vehicle camera, and a distance control mode operate in concert, activating at approximately 28 mph to make it a snap to maintain a safe distance from a lower-speed vehicle ahead. The system is designed to automatically slow you down if a vehicle in front of you does the same, and should additional deceleration show itself necessary, it can apply your brakes and activate brake lights accordingly. And when no further vehicular obstacles present, DRCC revs back up to its set speed for continued cruising. Plus, you can adjust DRCC's potential distance settings for a personalized ride.

Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

With graduation to 2016 Prius Liftback, 2017 Prius Liftback, and 2017 Prius Prime models and later, select Toyota vehicles with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) under the hood showcase a step up to Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. This DRCC variation extends your Toyota's minimum preset cruising speed to that below 25 mph, enabling diverse functionality from low-speed following and speed matching to stopping, speeding up to, and slowing according to vehicles ahead.
